Prepared Foods based in Palmerston North established itself in the 1960s as a pioneer paua business with an eye for innovation.

New Zealand Paua (Haliotis iris) is the only species of abalone in the world that is green-black.

Prepared Foods Group is separated into two entities: Prepared Foods Processing Limited, which is 100 percent owned by AFL, and Prepared Foods Limited, the sales and marketing arm of the company, which has a 50-50 ownership between AFL and Wellington-based Ocean Ranch.

Prepared Foods Processing Limited is the largest processor of paua in New Zealand with more than 1000 tonnes (in shell) harvested each year.
