Don was appointed to this role in July 2007, prior to that he was employed as Group Management Accountant when AFL was established in late 2004. He was previously the Commercial Manager at the former Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission (Te Ohu Kai Moana).

Of Ngati Porou descent on his father’s side and Kahungunu and Rongomaiwahine on his mother’s side, Don was raised and educated in Hastings. He has an extensive financial background in the commercial sector, having occupied senior finance roles in a number of companies

He first joined the fishing industry in 2002 after a successful career in the private enterprise. He spent three years with Shell Oil New Zealand and 11 years with Rothmans of Pall Mall (NZ), including Operations Project Manager for the company’s Asia-Pacific Region which provided exposure to business issues in diverse production and commercial environments. While at Rothmans, Mr Collier spent seven years as Financial Controller for the New Zealand company.

Prior to joining Te Ohu Kai Moana in 2002, Don spent three years at the New Zealand Dairy Board now Fonterra (Wellington), as a Product Finance Manager, and two years at Te Mangai Paho as Finance and Administration Manager.

A qualified chartered accountant, Don attended Victoria University and obtained a Batchelor of Commerce and Administration. He is married to Lesley and they have three children.
