Dean was appointed CEO of Prepared Foods in 2006 after managing another Aotearoa Fisheries Division, Pacific Marine Farms. He has been instrumental in a number of strategic business acquisitions and joint venture partnerships for both divisions. Dean has also overseen the growth of the Prepared Foods business to include supply of meals to the British Ministry of Defence, and the establishment of Prepack Limited a Joint Venture company between Aotearoa Fisheries and Wellington based Multi-Pack, established in 2009 to supply operational ration packs to the New Zealand and Australian defence forces.
Before joining Aotearoa Fisheries, Dean was a Director of Moana Pacific Fisheries and Prepared Foods. He continues to hold directorships on various commercial entities including his own tribal fishing company, Ngati Porou Fisheries Limited.
Dean is a Chartered Accountant and has a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University. He also holds electrical trade and engineering qualifications and was employed on a number of New Zealand's largest construction projects of the 80s including the Huntly Power Station and the Synfuels Plant in Motunui. Dean worked for Ernst & Young before joining Te Ohu Kai Moana's commercial team, where he was responsible for governance, business development and acquisitions.
